Old German Cookie Recipe - Sand Tarts

Updated on March 5, 2011

Old German Cookie Recipe

This recipe brings back memories of my Grandma. She was the  second generation from Germany to be in this country and her mother brought along with her all of the good recipes from Germany. Everything was homegrown and made from scratch.

Every week Grandma would make homemade noodles from the eggs her chicken laid. Several types of cookies, cakes and pies were made. Her cooking was memorable. Sundays brought roast beef or chicken.

Grandma and Grandpa wouldn't eat store bought bread. I'm sure at one time Grandma made it all herself, but there were daily trips to the bakery to buy fresh homemade bread. When we kids stayed with her she would send us up to buy some. Being country kids, this was a real treat to stay at Grandma's and be able to walk into town.

Here follows an old German cookie recipe. It isn't one that Grandma used because she didn't follow recipes. She had all of hers right in her head because she had made them all so many times. This one I found in an old German cookbook.
