Free Crochet Placemat Patterns
Placemats are a simple crochet project and that looks nice on the table. You'll find several free crochet placemat patterns on this page. Even beginner crocheters can attempt most of these.

Basic Rectangle - Crochet Spot offers a free pattern for a 12" x 9" placemat. This a very basic pattern that would work well for the beginner crocheter. It uses a medium weight yarn and a size I hook.
Country Plaid Place Mat - This easy placemat is offered for free at About.com. Because it is rated easy, any crocheter should be able to complete the pattern. You'll need Lily Sugar 'n Cream cotton yarn. This is a worsted weight yarn. You'll also need a size H crochet hook.
Country Plaid Placemat - Here is another plaid placemat offered at Ravelry. You'll need to download this pattern. It is a nice one.
Country Christmas Placemat - This is a pretty one that you can use at Christmas or year round depending on the yarn colors that you use. It is offered by Red Heart Yarn. The placemat is crocheted with Super Saver worsted weight yarn, so any worsted weight could be used.
Cross Stitch Placemat - The pattern uses a reverse single crochet and a cross stitch. It is crocheted with worsted weight yarn and a size G crochet hook.

Daisy Centerpiece and Placemat - This pretty pattern is offered by Craftown and was donated for use by Marlo's Crochet Corner. It is in the shape of a daisy. White and yellow worsted weight yarn were used and a size H crochet hook.
Leprechaun Placemat - Donna's Crochet Designs - These would be nice for Saint Patrick's Day. The pattern uses 4-ply worsted weight yarn and a size G hook.
Patio Placemat - Free Vintage Crochet offers this free pattern for placemats and a table runner. It was created with thread that is no longer available, but it would be easy to substitute since it is created with 3 by 3 inch motifs. Finish one and check the gauge.
Pineapple Wheel Lunch Mat - This vintage Coat's and Clark pattern is offered by Barbs Free Crochet Patterns. The pineapple pattern can be used as doily too. You'll need size 30 thread and a size 12 steel hook.
Rising Star Napkin Ring and Placemat - Mom's Love of Crochet offers this pretty set that has a rising star on the ends of the placemat. It is created with worsted weight yarn and a size K hook.

Rose Bouquet Placemats are a free pattern that is crocheted in filet crochet. The roses are beautiful. Use a different background thread, to match your own dining or kitchen colors. This is a vintage pattern from Barb's Free Crochet.
Round Placemat - this placemat from Crochet 'n More is created with 4-ply cotton yarn in a pretty white. Of course you could crochet it in any color you'd like. It looks like a pretty doily when finished. Finished size is 15 inches in diameter. You'll also need a size H hook.
Summer Waves Placemat and Coaster - Beautiful waves are made using a 4 row repeat. Moogly Blog offers this free pattern created with worsted weight yarn in 3 colors. This is a nice set.
