Free Crochet Patterns for Preemie Babies

Preemie baby clothing can be hard to find. Offered here are crochet patterns for almost everything you will need for the preemie baby. Most of the free patterns use just scraps of yarn, so you can use up your stash or buy a skein and make several.

Caron Simply Soft yarn is used in many of the projects, because it is so soft. It is important to use a soft yarn for a preemie baby's delicate skin.

If you have the time, crochet a few extras for charity. Many of these mother's have the baby's earlier than expected and aren't prepared. They've also quite often purchase newborn baby clothing and didn't realize how tiny there baby might be.

This page offers a hooded poncho with pants with feet designed by SLK Designs. Sizes are included for a small preemie, large preemie and newborn. This is an especially nice free pattern.

Bev from Bev's Country Crafts called these thumb booties because they were the size of her thumb and she says that they are just the right size for preemies. She used Simply Soft yarn and a size H hook. To make smaller booties, she suggest using baby or baby sports weight yarn.

This afghan is offered on Gather and was designed by Monica Kennedy. The afghan was completed in colors for a boy, but could be changed for a girl. She used Bernat Baby Chunky yarn.

The preemie button down boy's sweater pattern is offered by Cats Rockin Crochet Fibre Artist. The sweater is sized for a tiny preemie that weighs 1, 2, or 3 pounds. 4-ply yarn is used in the project.

The bootie pattern is brought to you by Deb's Crafts. She used baby sports weight yarn and a size F hook. The booties are 2" long, but can be changed by using a different weight yarn or hook.

The free bib pattern is offered courtesy of Crochet n More. Simply Soft 4-ply worsted yarn was used to create the bib and a size G crochet hook.

This pattern from Project Angel Kisses isn't a typical crochet pattern, but rather gives you a formula to make a dress to fit the baby according to the size they are.

The preemie gown is offered as a free pattern by Crochet n More. It is designed with Bernat Baby Sparkle yarn and a size G crochet hook. The pattern is rated at an Easy/Medium difficultly level.

This blanket is sized just right for a preemie. The design is by The Sunroom. DK weight yarn was used in the project.

This pattern is for a super easy tank top offered by Auroral Crochet. The top will fit a 3-5 pound preemie. You'll need baby sports weight yarn and a size F crochet hook to complete the project.

This afghan is designed Baby Bernat Coordinates yarn and sized for a preemie. The pattern is courtesy of Crochet 'n' More.

The free pattern is listed by Craftown. The designer was Judy's Crafty Cove. This is a simple hat that even a beginner should be able to tackle. It is designed using Simply Soft 4-ply yarn and a size F hook.
