Free Crochet Christmas Tree Ornament Patterns

By Barbara Kay

Crochet ornaments will add color and beauty to a Christmas tree. All patterns offered on this page are free for you to print. A good idea is crocheting thread ornaments and you can have a Victorian tree this year. You could also choose some of the yarn ornaments to add some spice to the tree.

Here you'll find crocheted snowflakes, bears, bells, Christmas trees and more. The nice thing about crocheting Christmas ornaments is that most only need scraps of yarn. You can either buy the skeins of yarn and crochet lots of ornaments or use what you have left over from other projects. You'll find patterns that are for beginners and for more skilled crocheters here.

Just click on the blue titles and it will take you to the pattern pages.

On this page, you get a bonus of 2 free angel patterns. The crochet projects use Lustersheen and a size 5 crochet hook. These are pretty and quick to make.

This pretty snowflake is made in two layers with white and blue. The beads make it extra pretty. You'll need wire and thread to create the snowflake ornament.

This archived pattern is for pretty Christmas bells created from worsted weight yarn. It may take a moment for the Way Back Machine to find the pattern. The bells are approximately 2 1/2" tall. You will need a size E crochet hook.

The Chirper Bird ornament looks like a partridge. Red Heart Holiday yarn and a size G crochet hook are used. The bird is 7 1/2" long when completed.

This free pattern is rated Intermediate, so it isn't for the beginner. To make the ornament, you'll need size 10 crochet thread and a size 9 steel crochet hook.

This is an ornament for a miniature Christmas tree. It is scaled at 1/12 size. The pattern uses very thin cotton thread and a size 14 crochet hook.

A medium weight yarn in used in the project. Each ball measures 2" in diameter. You could change yarn weights to make bigger or smaller balls. These would be a great way to use up scrap yarn. Make them in many colors and sizes.

The little bear is crocheted with size 10 crochet thread and a size 6 steel hook. You'll also need ribbon for his neck, eyes, polyester stuffing, and needle and thread for sewing.

The pattern is rated Easy, so even the beginning crocheter can finish the pattern. The little basket can be filled with anything you'd like from a little holly leaf, candy or what have you.

Crochet a tiny wreath for a Christmas tree ornament or use as a Christmas pin. The project is created with worsted weight yarn.

She used Red Heart sports weight yarn and a size C hook to create this pretty angel. You'll also need a doll head bead, doll hair, glue gun, and craft cord to complete the project.

This elephant is one of the cutest patterns I've seen. The stocking looks more like a hat, but the elephant is just charming. Both 4-ply and 3-ply yarn are used. You'll need a size F hook and several supplies to complete the project.

The star is 3" across and is crocheted with 4-ply worsted weight yarn and a size G hook.

Aunt Lydia's Rug yarn was used in this project, but I can't see why you couldn't just use scraps of red worsted weight yarn. This is a vintage pattern from 1952, but is easy to follow.

The Crochet Geek

The cute cow head ornament is crocheted with black and white worsted weight yarn and a size G hook.

Mom's Love of Crochet offers a free Christmas tree fan ornament. The fan is crocheted with crochet cotton and a size 3 steel crochet hook.

To complete this project you will need a 3" satin ornament ball. Also used is size 10 gold thread.

This mistletoe ornament pattern is a cartoon type ornament to be used in place of mistletoe. You'll need scraps of yarn and a size F hook. You can either embroider the eyes or use 6mm eyes like she did.

You'll need 4-ply worsted weight yarn in white, and green sports weight yarn to complete the project. Of course you can crochet it in the colors you have on hand. A size G hook was used. If you can't find the green sports weight yarn, you can divide the strands of worsted weight and use that. 2 strands of worsted weight equals sports weight.

Mom's Love of Crochet is offering this free pattern which is created with size 10 crochet cotton thread. You'll also need a size 7 crochet hook.

You'll find several free snowflake patterns. These are vintage patterns from 1952. The site has several other Christmas patterns offered free to print.

Crochet a snowman ornament. The pattern was designed with TLC Essential yarn and then stuffed with polyester. The pattern is for the snowman head and is as cute as can be.

This is a lacy star that is beautiful and simple. It is crocheted with size 20 crochet thread and a size 10 steel crochet hook. The finished star is 2.5" in diameter.

Art of Crochet Theresa

These tiny bells are crocheted with size 30 crochet cotton and a size 13 crochet hook. The pattern is from a vintage crochet book.

Barbara Kay,

My Mother would have loved this hub very much, she loved to crochet. I still have a big piece she gave me with the pineapple stitch, and all my aunts could crochet.

I can make rugs, but my love is writing.

But I admire the ones who can be still long enough to sew, crochet, and knit. I like making jewelry, that is as close as I can get to their talent.

Have a great Sunday,

Bobbi

htodd, Thanks for reading and posting.

PurvisBobbi44, I love the pineapple stitch. It's too bad she can't see all the free patterns. I'm not as good at sitting still anymore either, plus as you get older you start getting carpal tunnel from it. I do still crochet, but limit it to an hour at a sitting now. Thanks Bobbi.

I'm so glad I came across your page! My kids and I love to make at least one new ornament a year for our tree and we've done many different kinds from paper to pasta. I was so stumped on what to do this year because I ran out of ideas. But alas! I found your page that has great ideas! Thank you, thank you!

Excellent research - thank you!

I recently helped a friend get started with her first crochet project, but when she asked about snowflakes I had to encourage her to wait until next year when she's had more practice. If I'd seen this sooner, we might have found something I could walk her through step by step.

I'm looking forward to checking out each of those sites - free patterns are always useful, even if it's not right away!! (^_^)

Rated up/awesome

Kiela, Thanks for visiting and rating up. There are a few simple snowflakes here, but I would have agreed with you that a snowflake wouldn't be a good beginner project.

I can't wait for Christmas, I want to try some of these on my next tree. This makes for a different type of look and it kind of brings me back to the old days when my grandmother used to crochet everything, including our gifts...lol. It's all about the thought, she had a wonderful heart.

Thank you for all your work in gathering the crochet projects together! Love to crochet!

Have you ever run across a pattern for a Juliet cap that just covers the crown of the head and has ties under the chin? My mother made one back in about 1976 and I have looked and looked for a pattern that is similar.
